Alise Martiny

Leadership Appreciation Award Recipient

Alise Martiny has worked in the construction industry for more than 34 years. After graduating from a pre-apprenticeship program, she was accepted into the Kansas City Cement Masons’ Apprenticeship Program in 1980.

Ms. Martiny worked as a concrete finisher for her family’s firm, JJ Martiny Concrete Co. Inc., and worked at the Kansas City regional office of The Builders’ Association in a variety of positions, most recently as the workforce development manager.

She has worked as a journeyperson on thousands of job sites. She began utilizing her knowledge and skill in the trades and obtained the position of Apprenticeship Coordinator in 1993 and Business Agent for the Cement Masons’ and Plasterers’ Local Union 518 in 1999. Ms. Martiny has served as an officer in the local for five terms. She was elected to serve as the Business Manager/Financial Secretary for the Greater Kansas City Building and Construction Trades Council, the first women to hold that position.

Ms. Martiny works to recruit a diverse workforce, and to make sure young people have access to and understand the benefits of apprenticeship and a skilled labor union career.

Ms. Martiny holds an Associate’s degree in labor studies from Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
